A penstock is a single face sluice gate widely used for the isolation, regulation and flow control of fluids associated with sewage, wastewater, water, power generation, irrigation schemes and process plants, providing positive shut-off and opening characteristics for a variety of circumstances. Penstocks are designed in accordance with BS7775, which includes stipulation of leakage allowance.

The penstock door is raised to allow water to flow under it. Sometimes a penstock acts as a weir where the door is lowered and the water spills over the top.

Penstocks can be mounted on walls at the inlet/outlet of flow runs, channel mounted in flow channels or for fixing to flanged pipes.

Operation can be simple hand operation, geared, electrically or hydraulically powered either directly on the frame or at higher level with extension stems and pillars, etc.

The operating stems can be either rising or non-rising and is arranged for clockwise closing.

EVS Penstocks apertures start at 100mm with sizes upto 3000mm (larger/rectangular upon request) being available in Wall fixing and Channel rebate locations.

Our flexibility of design ensures meeting client specifications, operating heads, civil structure fixing designs and modes of direct or remote operation.

All electrical/hydraulic/pneumatic operational needs and all associated operating equipment and Installation are available.

EVS Ltd operates “Express Track”, a system providing clients with cast iron and fabricated penstocks of sizes 100 – 450mm from stock (*) at our works together with standard operating solutions to provide our customers with a fast and reliable system for urgent site requirements.
